Guide and details

How it works
  1. Choose two or more PDF files, or drag them onto the field above. You can add more files at any time.
  2. Check the list: every file shows its name and page count. Use the arrow buttons to change the order and the remove button to take a file out.
  3. Select “Merge PDF files”. The files are combined in the order shown.
  4. Check the page count of the result and select “Download PDF”.
Order and result

The merged document contains all pages of the first file, then all pages of the second file, and so on, exactly in the order of the list. The same file can be added more than once if you need its pages twice. Page sizes and page rotations are kept, so a landscape page stays landscape.

After merging, the tool re-reads the new file and checks that it has the expected number of pages before offering it for download.

What is kept and what is not

The content of every page is kept, including text, images and web links. Bookmarks, form fields and document properties such as the title and author are not carried over, because the merged file is a new document. If a source file had bookmarks or forms, the tool tells you after merging.

Digital signatures do not survive a merge: any change makes a signature invalid, so the new file is not signed. Scripts and automatic actions (JavaScript, launch and form submit actions) and attached files are removed. This reduces risk, but it is not a complete security check of your files.

Limits and protected files

You can merge up to 20 files at once. Each file can be up to 100 MB and the files together up to 200 MB, with at most 2,000 pages per file. On smartphones and devices with little memory the limits are 50 MB per file and 100 MB in total, because merging needs several times the file size in memory.

PDF files protected by a password or by restrictions are not processed. Remove the protection in the program that created the file, if you are allowed to. Damaged files are rejected with a message instead of producing a broken result.

Frequently asked questions

Are my PDF files uploaded?

No. The files are read and combined in your browser and are never sent to AnyConvertor or to any other server.

Can I change the order of the files?

Yes. Use the arrow buttons next to each file to move it up or down. The result follows the order of the list.

Why was my PDF rejected?

The most common reasons are password protection or restrictions, a damaged file, or a file above the size or page limits. The message names the reason.

Will bookmarks and form fields be kept?

No. The merged file is a new document that keeps the pages and their content. Bookmarks, form fields and document properties are not carried over.

Is a signed PDF still signed after merging?

No. Changing a document invalidates its digital signature, so the merged file is unsigned. The tool shows a note when this applies.
