Guide and details
How it works
- Choose files or drop several files onto the area above. “Add folder” takes a folder with its structure.
- Check the list with the sizes and remove files that do not belong.
- Give the archive a name. In the advanced settings you can switch compression off.
- Choose “Create ZIP” and download the finished file.
How the ZIP file is made
Your browser reads every file, compresses it with the Deflate method built into the browser and writes a ZIP archive in the usual standard. File names are stored as UTF-8, so umlauts and other special characters survive. Every file gets a CRC-32 checksum. It exists to detect damage and is not a security feature.
After writing, the tool reads the archive again and compares names, sizes and checksums with the originals. Only then is the download offered.
Compression and savings
Browsers offer no adjustable compression levels. That is why there are two choices: compress files where that makes them smaller, or store everything uncompressed. Images such as JPG or PNG, videos and files that are already packed hardly shrink and are stored as they are. The page shows the original size and the archive size. A saving is only stated when there is one; for very small or already compressed files the ZIP can even be slightly larger.
Identical file names are numbered (“Report (2).pdf”) so nothing is overwritten. Unsafe paths are cleaned. The archive carries a fixed, neutral timestamp, so it does not reveal when your files were made.
Limits
A ZIP file can hold up to 10,000 files and 600 MB together, less on smartphones and devices with little memory (250 MB). The tool offers no password protection or encryption. Dropping a whole folder onto the area is not supported; use “Add folder” if your browser offers it.
Frequently asked questions
Are my files uploaded?
No. The ZIP file is created entirely in your browser. The files never leave your device.
Can I pack a folder with subfolders?
Yes, with “Add folder”, if your browser offers folder selection. The folder structure is kept.
Will the ZIP file be smaller than the originals?
That depends on the content. Text, tables and uncompressed images often shrink a lot. JPG, PNG, MP4 and already packed files hardly do. The page shows the real size.
Can I protect the ZIP file with a password?
No. The tool does not create encrypted archives.
Can every program open the file?
The archive follows the usual ZIP format without ZIP64 and without encryption. It was checked with independent programs. We cannot promise that every program reads every detail.
