Prepare 3D Models for Printing

Before sending a 3D model to your printer, several preparation steps ensure a successful print. This checklist covers the most important points.

Preparation Checklist

  1. Check Manifold: The mesh must be watertight (no holes, no non-manifold edges).
  2. Fix Normals: All face normals must point outward.
  3. Wall Thickness: Minimum 0.8mm for FDM, 0.5mm for SLA.
  4. Orientation: Place the model to minimize supports.
  5. Scale: Verify units (mm vs inches) match your printer settings.
  6. Export Format: Use STL or 3MF for best compatibility.
